Taking on the waves!

DaveRandall SwimSale resident David Randall is in training to take to the waves of the English Channel to raise cash for charity. David is aiming to raise a staggering £12,000  to be split between three charities, one being Stockdales the others being The Alex Hulme Foundation and The Samaritans.

David , 59, has been swimming on and off since he was 10 years old and has been a member of Trafford Swimming Club masters section since 1996.

David said, “It has been my ambition to swim the Channel since I first started swimming many years ago. It will mark a special year for me as I turn 60 in August. The average swimming time is 13.5 hours, but I’m training to do it in less than 11 hours and 20 minutes. This would see me break the world record for the 60 and over age group.”

David intends to swim the channel by front crawl between 3rd and 6th September this year, subject to satisfactory weather conditions. Setting off from Dover, the distance can be anything between 20.6 and 25 miles depending upon the route taken.

Natalie James, Fundraising Manager at Stockdales said, “We are so honoured that David has chosen to support Stockdales through this gruelling challenge. It means a great deal to us and we wish him the best of luck. We hope that local people will dig deep to recognise his brave efforts.”
