New Year, New Shoots

Allotment Group 2017

In 2016 we were delighted to take on a new allotment in Sale. Our Community Action Group have been working exceptionally hard to get the plot up to scratch as it was really neglected. And how their hard work has paid off. The space is now looking tip top and the group are looking forward to reaping the rewards later on in the year. We can’t wait to see what produce they grow!

John, Tariq and Sean have been supported by staff and Jean, our invaluable, enthusiastic new gardening volunteer. They have made a real impact on the plot and will be ready to start planting soon. The shoots are already beginning to show in the seed trays, so it really is an exciting time for our budding gardeners.

Whilst they were clearing the site, the group discovered a pond which they hope to reinvigorate to encourage lots of lovely wildlife on to the site. There are also plans to buy a shed big enough to store tools and equipment in and that will double up as a warmer space to enjoy a much needed break with a nice cuppa and biscuits.

The group have lots of plans about what they want to plant and even hope to use some of their produce in the café we run at the Avenue Methodist Church in Sale on Wednesdays. That brings a whole new meaning to ‘locally sourced produce’ – we’ll know exactly where it’s come from! Good luck to the team – we’re super excited to seeing how the project progresses over the coming months.

We need to buy all sorts of things to make our allotment group tip-top – including a new shed and tools. Why not help us by making a donation here.
